Ming @ Agents of Speech

be careful about what you wish for

Hey friend,

Happy Tuesday!

Today I want to write to you about praying.

Now, before you think "Ming's gone all delulu again"...

Praying is something many mothers do.

Especially when things "aren't working".

Why do I put it in inverted commas?

Well, everything is a work in progress.

You, me, your child.

The therapy is definitely a work in progress.

It won't work unless you work on it.

The paradox of having a dream is that you have to live it to make it a reality.

Last week, I stood in for one of our coaches.

A mother said, "My child will be stuck, because he can't answer questions".

When I saw videos, I knew it was a matter of time.

Today, she sent me a message to celebrate her win.

Her son moved on to the next program - ready to make sentences.

Praying for something to work is one thing.

But praying for you to have the wisdom to make it work is another.

Because we (the coaches) can tell you it's possible.

When you hit a brick wall in therapy, it's hard to see a sliver of light.

Many mothers go into a vicious cycle of doubt.

Some never come out.

And I wanna tell you.

When I did my master's degree.

Only 27 out of 45 people graduated.

That's a 60% graduation rate.

And those who graduated, many decide to become part-time.

Or quit entirely and become a housewife (99% of therapists are women).

This work isn't for anyone, and with a gentle breeze, that passionate flame does go extinct.

As I've told you many times...

I also want to give up on this parent coaching model.

How much easier would life be if we were selling teaching materials online!?

This work is hard.

I wish I could tell you otherwise.

Mothers come into our programs with certain expectations.

And we have the data to back it up, too.

The average time for parents to finish a program with us is 200 days.

That's a hard pill to swallow.

BUT it's better than taking a university course or degree.

Your training is tied directly to your child's progress.

So be careful what you wish for.

Pray for yourself.

Because we cannot change our child without changing ourselves.

Pray that you have the courage and the skills to handle any situation.

That you have the mindset to see this through.

I'm not saying don't pray for your child's results.

That's important.

But when you pray for your child to catch up.

What you're praying for is the hard work that comes with it.

Because you won't get the result without the journey.

Pray that you have better legs so that you can carry your child.

We therapists can call it a day and stop working.

You can't.

You're chosen to do this work for your child.

And you have only one client.

Let's share our prayers here inside the community.

You're not alone, make a friend and celebrate together.

Keeping you in my prayers,

Ming

P.S. - I want to apologise for any hiccups in coaching. We'll be open again in September. If you're looking to join or resume, let me know via email or on Skool DMs.
