Hey Friend, It's a gloomy Tuesday afternoon here in Asia - I hope the weather's great where you are. I just returned from a Japan trip with my parents 2 days ago. A little tired from all the travelling - but Fukuoka is a great city π, wished that I could stay longer. Anyways - talking about the 10 dollars. It's hypothetical, so don't get ahead of yourself π The free content I've been sending you should've amounted to much more (I hope). What about the 10 dollars, then? On the way back, I listened to a podcast. This guy called Seth Godin described about trust. If a guy wanted to trade you $10 for $1 at the bus stop, would you take it? A sane person would say no. Because:
He then went on to say, what if a neighbour kept on shoving $10 bills in your mailbox anonymously for 3 days. And on the 4th day he came over and owned up to giving you $30 dollars for free. Then when he asked to exchange $10 for $1, I'm sure you would go ahead right? You might be asking "yes Ming I get the story, what does that have to do with my child?" Loads! Front loading value and giving things out for free is the best way to gain trust. Isn't it why you read my emails? We have 300+ parents who joined our coaching programs. 3,500+ parents who bought our courses before (now free btw).β It's the same logic with children. When you put the trade in the beginning - asking him to speak in order to get something (reward or whatever). Or even worse, you're asking him to say something just for the sake of it. Your child is probably thinking the 3 reasons above! That's why she's running away. β Ok - that's me front loading some dollars bills to you. If you liked it, let me know by replying. I've written 3 chapters of our new book. I'll include these kinds of analogies' inside. And you'll get to join as a Beta Reader in August. Have a great rest of the week, Ming β P.S. - I'm working on a way to get personalized recommendations for activities, toys and courses to watch. It will be a paid product, though; we're putting a lot of effort into getting the logic correct for this. You'll hear more about this in July π |
